Big Picture : Tiger Replica
Today's Big Picture was taken at Military Odyssey in 2009. This is a full size replica Tiger I and it had just taken part in a WWII battle re-enactment.
I was told it featured in Saving Private Ryan and other films although I can't find anything to corroborate this.

It would be possible that this one featured in Saving Private Ryan... I read some time ago that at the moment, about 3-4 years ago, there were only 2 machines working in whole world - if so, I presume it's cheaper to build a replica than to rent an original Tiger for a movie...
ReplyDeleteThey did build a replica for Saving Private Ryan. If this is it I didn't realise it was still about. Though its probably the same one used in Band of Brothers. Must keep an eye out for it at any shows I attend, would love to see this thing in the flesh.
ReplyDeleteBuilt up on a T34/85 chassis? The wheel configuration looks like it.
ReplyDeleteStill even as replica it looks impressive, bearing in mind the real Tiger would have been a bit bigger still.
there were 2 from Saving Private Ryan, a friend and reenactor here in the San Francisco Bay Area bought one and used it for a while at reenactments, but it has moved on.
ReplyDeletebuilt from a Russian diesel tank.
I believe the other is still in the UK

T34/85 chassis - THATS why it looked well, to well sprung! (And a few bogies short) Its a pretty terrific looking replica nonetheless - envy those 'landser' having a joy-ride on the back!
