My mate Derek has gone and earned himself yet another honourable mention in dispatches. When he arrived for the Delvers Game on Friday he came bearing gifts!
Derek's book Karl: Birth of Mystery has arrived from the printers and is now being shipped for all those people who pre-ordered. Mine however was hand delivered by the author himself. When I have finished my current book I'll read Karl next, that is of course if my daughter has finished reading it first!
As well as his own novel Derek also gave me two other books which will join my growing collection in the 'must-be-read' pile. Both look very interesting but I'm particularly keen to read the El Alemein book as the war in the desert has always fascinated me.
So once again I find myself saying thank you to Derek, you are a scholar and a gentleman!
Very cool when things like that happen. Did he sign it also?
ReplyDeleteYeh...I'll keep it in case he becomes famous... signed 1st edition! LoL.
DeleteHuzzah!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that I also went to a second hand book sale on the Sunday. I resisted the temptation to come away with a pile of books but still bought a couple to add to my pile. Best buy was a book about Hobarts Funnies (the specialised tanks designed for d-day). Mint condition, 20p. Result!
ReplyDelete[Inserts emoticon for blush :$] Thanks Lee.
ReplyDeleteHey I love rummaging in old book shops and book sales, where was this one? I usually always come away with a huge pile, I have probably got more 'real' books now than the local library.
Its held at Valance House every couple of months. Most of the books are ex library stock but a lot are donated. Most books are priced less than £1 and all funds go to the Friends of Valance House (a registered charity) to support the work of Valence House Museum and the Archives and Local Studies Centre. The next book sale is on the 30th June between 10am-3pm at the Valence House Visitor Centre.
DeleteCheers I'll note that in the diary. I've been to one sale there before, but that was their last one before they closed Valance for a refit and I didn't know they had started again.
DeleteI think Valance museum would be a good piece for your blog as well.
Congrats to djk (Dave) and nice haul Lee!
ReplyDeleteWell done Dave!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat's Dave got to do with it?
