MDF Buildings take shape

A few weeks ago I reported on two kits that I bought at the Broadside show. These were the new range of 15mm MDF buildings form 4 Ground. Well I've finally got round to assembling them and I'm pretty happy with the finished buildings. One model was plain MDF and required some painting and the other came pre-painted. Here are the two side by side and I think you'll agree they look pretty good.

Assembly was relatively easy and just required a bit of PVA glue, some elastic bands a little patience. The building on the right was the pre painted one and the other I did myself. I painted all the relevant sections on the sprue and aside from one minor hiccup it was pretty easy to replicate the pre painted look. Having said that I may just pay the extra couple of quid and get the pre painted ones in future just to save time.

  1. They look brilliant Lee! I've been thinking about buildings recently and nearly picked some 4 ground ones up, next time I won't hesitate hearing your positive review.

  3. Following your previous article, I have actually purchase 5 of the buildings. They look very nice, are not so expensive for pre-painted ones and look very convenient to use for standard FOW bases.

    thanks again for sharing.

  4. They look very nice and can't argue about the prepaitend one but there is something that feels "Lego" like a bit about them. It's probably the close-up picture as they're quite small and probably will feel different on the gaming board.

    1. They are a bit 'clean' compared resin and hand-painted houses but I don't think they are too bad. The laser cutting leaves slight burning on the painted surfaces and this hels give the buildings a slightly dirty look. And I don't think it would take much effort to make a few custom alterations such as damage and burning.

  5. They don´t look too bad at all. The core of the Medieval Fredericus rex houses are made of that mdf stuff. The only small problem was that sometimes it seemed that the laser cut had shrunk them a little and they glue slightly less than square. I cheat..pre-piant the bits on the cards before assembly.

    1. One of the buildings was unpainted so I painted the bits on the sprue. Once assembled a few small touch-ups were all that were needed to make them look the part.

  6. One of the things I most like about these is that they are very strong. The MDF sections lock together and with a touch of PVA the whole structure is very solid.

    1. That suprised me with the Fredericus-rex buildings. The actual parts are pretty flimsy but when they are all glued together they "solid up".

  7. They look good mate. The quoin stones look quite harsh though. An easy fix for a man of your talents. All the best Clint.
