Is being a successful tabletop general essential to being a good wargamer? Is it possible to enjoy the hobby even if you are an appalling commander? And is it possible to train yourself to be a better general?
Top tip. While the game is fresh, ask your opponent to help with a post mortem. Learn from what you got wrong. Ask them what they would have done differently. Tip Two. Plan for bad dice. Sure, your Grenadiers 'should' roll over his militia, what's your plan if they Don't? Tip Three. Learn some basic military maxims. You can't win everywhere, reinforce success not failure, get there fastest with the mostest, and you can't win if you don't fight. Tip Four. Have a plan. Even a bad plan is better than no plan at all.
