Can Science Fiction Wargames ever be realistic?

Can Sci-Fi wargames ever be 'realistic'? This is a subscriber question from some time ago that got missed (sorry). But its was an interesting topic to explore.

  1. I would agree with you Lee on the Sci-Fi - plausibility is key, but that is a universal imperative for historical wargames as well. Enjoyed your book review as well. I like Lambshead's style too.

  2. Great post Lee, I can't really comment on Sci-Fi as you know its not my favorite thing on the tabletop. Films and books yes, but not on the table top......until Steve gets his Star Wars figures out of course. But being realistic, the question really should/could be is any wargame realistic. We hope that all the different diverse rules we all use, portray and make us play historically? I'd like to think they do, but do they? Things to ponder???

  3. The answer is unambiguously, YES!

Are the SF wargames rules currently available realistic? Largely not.

I have plans. You heard them here first (or not, if you've followed my blog), but time and effort has been difficult to find to get them done and dusted, because life has been difficult.
