I have a small box of metal offcuts in my bits box. For the most part these are sections of metal sprue or items that have been cut off a model in the process of a conversion. I don't know why I have kept them. Maybe I thought they might be melted down one day to make a model of my own (I keep looking at self casting kits).
Today I found an alternative use for these bits of waste metal. As 'handles' for holding small items on. I use a dab of superglue to fix an item, a shield for instance, to the sprue section so I can paint it. When completed the bond to the sprue is small and weak enough to make a clean break without ruining the painted bit.
