I'm sure that for non Flames of War players the title of this post may be a little contentious but right now I want to 'big up' my respect for Battlefront so bare with me. The last issue of Wargames Illustrated contained a rather enigmatic full page advert announcing the release of the 3rd Edition rules for Flames of War. Now there is a video (embeded below) elaborating on this news and announcing a special offer for veteran FoW players. Battlefront are giving away the paperback version of the 3rd edition rules to anyone that owns the hardback 2nd edition book. Now that's what I call customer service!
Awesome! Like most existing FoW players I will probably end up buying the hardback 3rd Edition rules at some point but I do like the handy sized paperback version of the rulebook and would have had to replace it eventually.
Whether your a FoW player or not I think most gamers would agree this is a great way of acknowledging existing players (as well as being a shrewd piece of PR). Nice one Battlefront!
This is a nice touch. I will be playing my first game of FOW in January.
ReplyDeleteThat shows a hell of a lot of respect for their customers and is a very nice touch... I now stand back from the lit blue touch paper and say... "though I really, really don't like FoW" ... Respect to all those that do but it's too much of a tank fest for my liking. Every game I've seen sees whole formations of vehicles, wheel to wheel and usually trying to crouch behind a small building to avoid fire... Not for me thanks.
ReplyDeleteI have always thought their Customer Service was top notch. Several times I had broken figures in a blister pack or a missing piece for a tank. Twice they replaced the entire blister pack of infantry and replaced missing pieces within 3 - 4 days. I think they are a great company!
ReplyDeleteGod damn , that is indeed very generous!
ReplyDeleteI am usually very hard pressed for cash and bought my hardback v2 earlier this year.
I'm a FOW player and that is indeed how to treat your customers!

They did the same thing with the release of second edityion, if I remember right. I've certainly still got my slim paperback version of the rules in any case.
ReplyDeleteHmm, pity i only have the softcover V2 rulebook.
ReplyDeleteGood move by Battlefront though
I'm afraid I'm a bit of a FOW basher, but you can't beat this for service!!!
ReplyDeleteSo how many guys will be on e-bay buying old 2nd edition copies ready ;-)

It's the Christmas spirit Lee, and also most Kiwi's are a generous bunch.
ReplyDeleteGood on them for a change. I do like the effort that Battlefront go to with their website and marketing.

I think this is some of the best customer service I have heard of, and keeps existing players happy. (GW - got your ears on...?). Well done Battlefront. Not only that, Maelstrom is back stocking FoW next year too. A good year ahead for FoW I reckon :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm quite neutral on FoW, but I've always thought they have come out with consistently good product and have attracted people into the hobby by giving an alternative to the other Evil Empire.
ReplyDeleteFair play to them, that's a pretty good bit of service from where I'm sitting.
Wow. I've never seen a company do something like that. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteNot a FOW player at all but "chapeau" for these guys. That's customer care indeed. Someone in GW should take a course
ReplyDeleteI'm not an FoW player - I plain don't like the system, as my latest blog will attest - but hats off to Battlefront for that. They can and should and do get credit for keeping the hobby going and making it accessible.
